Andrzej Wajda who made cinematic masterpieces using Poland's rich history is now a memorable monochromatic portrait in the legendary memory lane. Fighting a brave fight for life in hospital, Wajda succumbed to death at the age of 90.
The Wajda movies featured passive yet aggressive criticism on the communist dictatorship. He stepped into the journey with the limelight with the movie “A Generation" in 1955; The movie, that told the tales of the pandemonium that existed in the Poland that devastated after the Second World War and the Nazi onslaught and migrations, kicked off the Polish Schooling, in the World Cinemas.

His works such as Man of Iron (1981), Man of Marble
(1977) faced strong censorship and brutal opposition from the communist
government that time. The Man of Iron depicts the Solidarity labour movement
and its first success in persuading the Polish government to recognize the
workers' right to an independent union.

The fact that Man of Iron bagged the
best film award in Cannes Film Festival, thereby attracting the world's
attention freed Wajda from imprisonment.
The recipient of Palme d'Or (French
pronunciation: [palm (ə) dɔʁ]; English: Golden Palm), even ventured to make films in Germany and France so
as to overcome the ban of the Polish Govt. In the year 2000, the Oscar
Committee awarded the Honorary Oscar reckoning the illustrious and self-made
career that spanned over half a century, which indeed revolutionized the World
Cinema in ways unimaginable.
